Phase 1: Search. Decision.
- Do you already have an idea where you want to settle? Let’s talk about regions and towns, coastlines and villages.
- How much space, how much facilities and infrastructure do you want? I will investigate options, opportunities and prices for you.
- Do you want to avoid unnecessary trips to Portugal without results ? I will inspect suitable properties in advance and provide a validation.

Phase 2: Examination. Negotiation. Contract.
- Do you really want to negotiate directly with sellers and real estate agents? I can get you a better price.
- Are you comfortable to examine documents are complete and correct? I will support you and discuss any questions with a Portuguese lawyer.
- Who will be able to coordinate the appointments with tax office, bank, local authorities and notar’s office? Not everyone in Portugal speaks English, especially in remote and rural areas – but I speak Portuguese.

Phase 3: How to make a house your home.
- Registration of electricity and water, telephone, internet connection and cell phone contract – a lot of administration needs to be done. I will gladly assume it.
- Are you thinking of renovating, refurbishing, expanding, maybe even temporarily renting out your house? I will organize permits and tradesmen and deal with the autorities for you.
- Are you looking for a gardener or for regular pool service, for fire protection or for reliable houskeeper? Ask an experienced buyer’s agent.

I bought my first house at the west coast of the Algarve, the second one some years later in the Alentejo.
As a lawyer, I easily became familiar with the specialities of Portuguese bureaucracy. My professional experience in communications was helpful in learning Portuguese and understanding culture and mentality.

So, how do we get to your house in Portugal?
Portugal is similar to California in terms of western values. But it’s also different in terms of languages and, most importantly, a completely different mindset. We pay attention to this when buying a house. My job is to bring your world and the world of sellers and brokers together. I’m there to help you navigate through Portuguese bureaucracy, overcome language barriers, facilitate communication and avoid misunderstandings. With my help, you can get your house in Portugal quickly and easily.
The first thing you need to know:
I won’t give you any pre-made packages. Your needs and preferences are too different for that. I listen to you and ask questions. How far are you planning to go? Have you already decided on a house, or are you still looking? Where do you need support? What are you going to do yourself? Based on this, I’ll give you a non-binding and free offer.
If you know your way around, my fee could be a few hundred euros. But if I’m there to help you out and take a lot of work off your plate, it’s worth more. You get good results and avoid costly mistakes.
An example: You’ve picked a few properties and asked me to do some research before you see them yourself. Is the condition really as described in the report? What do you need to do? Are there any projects that could potentially ruin your dream? Then we’ll look at your favorites and see if we can work together.
Only then, you’ll know if you still need me… during negotiations, organizing, scheduling appointments, with banks, insurance companies, tax offices… You don’t have to make a big decision far in advance, your costs will always be manageable.
